Sebago Lake Distillery is proud to announce that its small batch, 100% pot still, Barrel Rested Portland Rum has received a Silver Medal from The Fifty Best while the Maine distiller readies the release of the next batch of the coveted spirit. Following the successful debut of the first batch of Portland Rum in 2018, Dan Davis, Sebago Lake Distillery’s Co-Founder and Head Distiller is putting the final touches on the newest batch noting “Our first release of Barrel Rested Portland Rum was met with such enthusiasm that we sold out the full run within two weeks of release. As you can imagine, our team, along with our customers are anxious for the next release to arrive in market. This next batch has aged longer than the first — 18 months vs. 12 months in bourbon barrels. The result is a silky-smooth sipping rum with an even greater depth of the oaky goodness of old whiskey highlighted with a deliciously smooth mouthfeel and creamy caramel goodness.”
To establish its Fifty Best Aged Rum recipients, The Fifty Best held a “blind” tasting of aged rums with its spirits judging panel. Each of the aged rums were poured into fresh glasses from new sealed bottles, and served at slightly above room temperature. The judges scored each product on a 5-point system, with 5 as the highest.
