Oakland’s Booming Restaurant Scene
The “Brooklyn” of the Bay Area—has slowly evolved into a dining destination thanks largely in part to the design work of Arcsine, a local architecture and interior design firm known for creating innovative and dynamic spaces. The team is behind some of California’s hottest eateries like Calavera, Modern Coffee and soon-to-be-open Agave—and they can share the hospitality design trends that are putting Oakland on the map.
Calavara: Mexican Kitchen and Agave Bar
Playing up the ‘nature-inspired’ design trend, Arcsine uses weathered wood and stone, exposed brick, living walls and locally sourced materials. Mixed, these elements create refined yet inviting atmospheres.
Modern Coffee
From floor tiles and countertops to wallcoverings and partitions, Arcsine leverages pattern to bring personality and movement to interiors. 
Dirty Water
To soften hard materials (i.e. marble), Arcsine favors radial and bullnose-edged tables — they’re playful yet sleek. The designers opt for barrel and tub chairs and curvaceous bar stools for a hint of the unexpected.
